Music Theory Exam update – session two

On the basis of government advice, we are cancelling the Music Theory exams due to take place later in 2020. We are sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your ongoing loyalty and support

Update – 9 September

In line with government guidelines, we are now back in the office but with reduced access, hours and staff numbers to allow for social distancing.

We are sending out Music Medals certificates and medals when one of our team is in the office. We hope to have sent out all outstanding certificates and medals – for results confirmed from 16 March –  by the end of September, so that we can then resume normal service in October.

We would ask that you do not send anything to us by post, as our time in office is limited and our main focus will be on sending out certificates and medals.

If you have any queries, please email us at [email protected]

Update – 5 June

Following a successful pilot, we’re pleased to announce that we can now accept remote assessments for the Music Medals programme. If you are a Music Medals Teacher-Assessor interested in submitting remote assessments, please contact us at [email protected]

Music Medals registration

If you wish to offer Music Medals to your pupils simply complete the form below to register as a Teacher-Assessor. Teacher-Assessors prepare, administer and assess Music Medals.

What happens next?

Once you have registered as a Teacher-Assessor you will be sent an applicant number and password giving you access to the free online training system. This will give you all the information you need to prepare your pupils, make entries and carry out Music Medals assessments.

Before completing this form, please note the requirements below.

  • Teacher-Assessors must be aged 18 or over.
  • Teacher-Assessors may only conduct assessments of their own pupils.
  • ABRSM reserves the right to refuse or terminate registration of any individual as a Teacher-Assessor.
  • ABRSM is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Teacher-Assessors are expected to share this commitment and to be familiar with ABRSM’s safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures

Change to Music Medal certificates

As of March 2020 we are withdrawing Music Medals from the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and certificates will no longer carry the Ofqual logo. This change will allow us to make important improvements to Music Medals in response to feedback from teachers and learners. The deadline for submitting an entry to receive a regulated certificate was 22 December 2019, with video and results submitted by 31 January 2020. Results submitted after this date will receive our new non-regulated certificate.

Apart from new certificates, we are continuing to offer Music Medals in their current form with no other changes.
